What is a Bike Parade?
By now, many of our residents have seen the posters and flyers about Andrews’ 4th of July in the Mountains celebration. If you haven’t you can find out all you need to know on our Event Page.
This year’s fun-filled event will again be at the Andrews Rec Park, and includes all of the activities that you’re used to (such as the Peanut Drop, Horseshoe Tournament, Pool Activities, and Fireworks), as well as music and vendors. The event is put on by the Town of Andrews and the Andrews Chamber of Commerce.
Starting in 2019, we’ve added a Bike Parade to the beginning of the day, to give kids 12 years old and under a way to show their pride in the USA! Members of the VFW will be judging entrants this year. Sign-ups will begin at 10:45am at the tent across from the Pool entrance. Each entrant will receive a number with a color-coded ribbon to place on their entry.
The divisions for judging are:
- Most Festive Bike (Green Ribbon)
- Most Festive Pet (Purple Ribbon)
- Most Festive Stroller (Orange Ribbon)
- Most Festive Wagon (Blue Ribbon)
- Most Festive Scooter (Yellow Ribbon)
Winners in each division will receive a certificate and a special surprise!
How do I decorate?
Use things like streamers, ribbons, bows, flowers, balloons, hats, flags…anything patriotic you can find at the Dollar Store, Big Lots, or Walmart. The more decorated you are, the more you’ll stand out.
You can even sing your favorite patriotic song while you parade around the Rec Park parking lot. If your singing voice isn’t the best…chanting “USA!” is also a great attention grabber.
What is the parade route?
We will line up in front of the pool entrance and begin the parade as close to 11am as possible. Our Mayor-James Reid will dress up and lead the way as we walk through the parking lot past the Community Center, along the sidewalk, then back down the other side of the Community Center to the Pool Entrance.
Family members are encouraged to stand or sit along the route and cheer you on!
Remember, young children should walk the parade with an adult or responsible older sibling. All pets must be on a leash. We want this first annual bike parade to be safe and happy for everyone!
Can’t wait to see your decorations!
